Workshops and Training

I deliver workshops and training on the job search process, operating from your strengths, writing compelling application essays, writing well (when it’s not your top business priority), and transitioning from academia to industry. I also speak at select networking, job seeker, and high school groups by request.

Beyond workshops for institutions and organizations, I also offer a Career Advancement Workshop Series open to the public.

Learning the tools for what you need to succeed in job searches and professional settings is half the battle to success. Yet many people, through no fault of their own, are uninformed or under-informed. By delivering customized workshops and training sessions, in person or via webinars, I teach members of your group or institution strategies for achieving the best results possible—whether this is in improving your resume, LinkedIn profile, cover letter, approach to interviewing, or your skills in professional writing broadly speaking. I also teach the distinctions been writing a resume and writing a CV, so academics can be confident as they navigate a transition away from academia and into industry.

Operating from Your Strengths

Research has proven that people are more productive at work and happier in life if they operate from their strengths, but far too few people know this and even fewer know what their strengths are and how to leverage them. In this half-day workshop co-taught with Tracy Jenkins, Ph.D., we take a deep-dive into the StrengthsFinder assessment, and you learn how to leverage your strengths to improve business operations and career success. To tailor this session, we ask participants to take the StrengthsFinder assessment in advance and submit a short questionnaire.

Learning to Network & Interview Successfully

Although most people realize the importance of networking and interviewing well for proactively managing their careers, many do not have a clear plan for doing so. Frankly, most people simply don’t have the time to create a plan—leading to an approach that is haphazard, at best. In this half-day workshop, three Ph.D.-level coaches (myself; Mike Davies, Ph.D.; and Tracy Jenkins, Ph.D.) teach your organization’s members or students how to network and interview successfully by encouraging them to be intentional, authentic, and articulate in their networking and interviewing process. Equipped with those three tenets, job seekers become empowered and confident as they manage their careers and conduct a job search campaign.
